2009 was a difficult year for Ostara Crystals, with the long illness and subsequent death of Barbara - Roy's wife and my mother. Barbara founded Ostara in 2006 after receiving the all clear from the breast cancer with which she had been diagnosed in 2003. The name Ostara is linked with the spring festival of rebirth, more widely known as the Christian Easter but with far earlier roots, and it is typical of my mother that she should have chosen this celebration of light and hope for the name of her business.
This morning, as the festival of Ostara approaches once again, the sun is shining, the trees are coming into bud and the land appears to at last be throwing off the harshness of what has seemed a very long and cruel winter. We are reminded that however dark the winter, life continues irrepressibly, and Roy and I renew our resolve to carry on Barbara's business as a tribute to her unfailing spirit and optimism.
With that in mind we are working on several new lines of jewellery, incorporating more unusual stones such as Libyan Gold Tektite, Pietersite and Black Kyanite, as well as continuing to expand and improve our range of individually-made selenite wands and meditation tools.
We also have a good stock of lovely Amethyst geodes and other specimen pieces. As ever, if you don't see what you want on the website, and can't get along to one of the shows to talk to us in person, then email us and let us know what you are looking for.
